Sharman Elison, D.V.M., Principal Veterinarian

Qualifications:

Growing up in an old time paniolo family in south Kona, animals have always been part of Dr. Elison's life. Her youth was full of rich experiences, being a horseback rider in Kona, watching her Grandfather train horses and catch wild bulls, and caring for the many dogs on the ranch, all enriched her love and interest in veterinary medicine. With a priority on education, Dr. Elison elected to move to Honolulu for her middle school education as a 7th grade boarder at Kamehameha Schools. After graduating in 1968, she attended Oklahoma State University. Dr. attended Washington State University for her first year of veterinary school and in 1975 completed her doctorate degree in veterinary medicine and surgery at the University of Illinois Champaign-Urbana. As most roads lead back to Hawaii, Dr. Elison returned to work for Kaneohe Veterinary Clinic for one year and then in 1977 opened her own practice, Haiku Veterinary Clinic, Inc. In 2002, Dr. Elison completed the Colorado State University Animal Acupuncture course and continues to integrate Western and Eastern medicine into her general practice, improving the quality of life and increasing preventative care for many of her patients.

Areas of Interest:

Dr. Elison lives in Kailua with her husband. She has three grown daughters, 1 horse, 3 dogs, 2 cats, and 1 bird that keep her busy. Dr. Elison strongly believes in giving back to the community, her service includes board positions with the Aloha State Dressage Society and Kailua Hawaiian Civic Club.

Amanda Dale, D.V.M., Associate Veterinarian F/T

Qualifications:

Dr. Amanda Dale was raised in a rural town called Park Falls, among the lakes and trees of northern Wisconsin. She went off to school at Northern Arizona University and University of Oregon for degrees in Liberal Arts and Biology. Veterinary medicine wasn't her goal from the beginning, but three very special ladies (one ferret and two amazing canines) led her to that career. Dr. Dale graduated from the University of Wisconsin-School of Veterinary Medicine in 2008. Most of her family currently resides in the Pacific Northwest. She considers Oregon as well as Wisconsin to be her mainland base. She and her husband Alex consider themselves very fortunate to have landed in windward Oahu and to have become a part of the Haiku family.

Areas of Interest:

Dr. Dale graduated with a mixed animal background that was evenly balanced between small and large animals. She has some experience with small ruminant medicine as well as small mammal and reptile care. Since arriving at Haiku Veterinary Clinic, she has been focused on preventative and general medicine for small companion animals as well as soft tissue surgery. Dr. Dale hopes to incorporate more complimentary medicine in the future.
